about tallycola

I was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I grew up in the dusty oilsands of southern Alberta, went to university for an MA in Politics at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, and currently reside in Vancouver. I recently returned from volunteering in Tanzania.

I am in the writing for film and television program at Vancouver Film School, and I also write fanfiction, short stories, novels and stage plays. Despite all that, I am not very eloquent.

I am interested in/concerned by the representation of women, girls and minorities in popular film and television.

Among other things.

My movie reviews are more an exercise for me as a screenwriter than real journalistic reviews. I mostly talk about things that impressed me (or not) as a writer, and practice writing loglines. I put up the Bechdel test and minority stuff as a service to those of you who use that criteria to decide which movies to see, but my movie pool is quite small. I mostly see the stuff I can see for free/the cheapest and unfortunately miss out on a lot of indie films and festivals as a result. Hopefully this will change when I’m out of school.

New commenters will be moderated first time out.
